Can You Mow a Golf Course? The New Coordinates Smart All-Electric Lawn Mower Takes You Behind the Scenes

Today we drove 450 kilometers to Tianyi Golf Club in Weihai, Shandong Province. Invited by clients both domestic and international, we came to demonstrate the performance of our XuanNiao R1 fully-electric intelligent mower on a golf course.

Golf course turf maintenance is notoriously refined and precise. Greens require 2-4.5mm cutting height with daily mowing, flatness deviation no greater than 2mm. On an area the size of your palm, nearly a thousand grass plants grow densely together.

If our machine can handle this, what is there to worry about elsewhere?

Different Standards for Different Areas

Before mowing, we researched relevant materials and gathered basic turf information to adjust our mower parameters.

Golf courses are mainly divided into four functional zones: greens, tee boxes, fairways, and rough. Turf requires completely different refined maintenance standards for each area, with five core indicators: height, density, flatness, ball roll speed, and soil health.

Greens Typically mowed manually with the highest requirements. Height: 2-4.5mm. Flatness deviation ≤2mm. Daily mowing required. Density can reach 800-1,000 plants per square decimeter.

Tee Boxes High-intensity wear-resistant zones. Mowing height: 12-15mm. Two to three times per week.

Fairways The main battlefield. Height: 12-18mm. Three to four times per week.

Rough Relatively relaxed standards. Height: 25-100mm. Once a week is sufficient.

Before Starting: Install the “Eyes” First

We used the XuanNiao R1 fully-electric intelligent mower for this demonstration. It features a 79cm cutting width, adjustable mowing height of 2-10cm, and is equipped with 48Ah lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Before mowing, we installed the base station first. It assists positioning by reducing dynamic error between our machine and satellites to just 5cm, with static error of only 2cm. It also covers a communication range of over 50km in diameter. Within this range, multiple mowers of different models can perform mowing operations or return for recharging.

Hardcore Equipment

Golf courses have irregular shapes with curves and corners, making boundary mapping more complicated than regular lawns. But the XuanNiao R1 supports multiple modes—square, irregular shapes, cross-area operations—all can be mapped. Mowing paths can also be selected: boustrophedon, chevron, or custom routes.

The XuanNiao R1 can operate continuously for 2-2.5 hours. Peak work efficiency reaches 2,000㎡/h. Paired with a fast charger, it fully charges in 2 hours. Two batteries enable cyclic operations. When paired with a charging station, the machine can return for recharging when battery is low and continue working.

App remote control allows one-time mapping for repeated multi-machine use. For larger areas, a marker device can also be used for mapping. Equipped with LiDAR, cameras, and other sensors, it can also achieve obstacle avoidance and detouring operations.

Cost Savings for Golf Course Maintenance

Turf mowing accounts for the majority of golf course maintenance costs. For a medium-sized course, annual labor costs for mowing alone are substantial. The XuanNiao R1 can save 70% on labor costs, making intelligent equipment for golf course maintenance a reality.

Conclusion

The XuanNiao R1 fully-electric mower has conquered even the most demanding scenario—a golf course. Your estate, farm, or landscape maintenance will be effortless for it.

The summer mowing peak season is approaching. Don’t let labor costs drag down your profits.
