Vegetation maintenance on dam embankments has always been a headache. Recently, our team drove 550 kilometers to the Hongze Station of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province.
This site is a critical node of the national strategic project—the Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion. Protecting the water source is the top priority, which means the use of any chemical herbicides is strictly prohibited.
The on-site conditions were more severe than imagined: we targeted the outer slope lawn of the canal embankment, which has a gradient of 1:3.0 (approximately 23 degrees). Faced with the massive grassy slope, traditional manual mowing is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also carries extremely high safety risks.

Solution: Intelligent Equipment Born for “Extremes”
To solve this thorny problem, we brought the Xuaniao T1-900A Crawler Commercial Mower, equipped with the New Coordinates Intelligent Navigation System.
Before formal operation, we set up a positioning base station. This “brain” maintains a dynamic error of 2-5cm between the machine and satellites. A single base station covers a diameter of over 50km, and maps can be shared among multiple machines—a rather hardcore setup.
Facing the 23-degree steep slope where ordinary machines easily “slip” or “deviate,” we activated the dedicated “Steep Slope Mode” paired with the following hardcore configuration:
🔧 【Core Specification Card】
- Powerful Engine: Equipped with a 608cc 22PS horsepower engine; the hybrid electric system ensures stable long-term operation with fuel consumption as low as 2-3L/h.
- High-Efficiency Cutting Deck: 90cm cutting width; cutting height is precisely adjustable within the 2-15cm range; hourly operation area reaches up to 3,000-4,000 square meters.
- Extreme Mobility: Tracked chassis combined with anti-slip algorithms allows a maximum climbing angle of 40 degrees, easily handling the dam gradient.
On the navigation level, the machine is also equipped with an RTK high-precision positioning and visual obstacle avoidance system, achieving centimeter-level edge trimming. This protects the dam vegetation while eliminating the risk of machine rollover.

Field Test: Fully Automatic & Rock Solid
The mower deployed features a 608cc 22PS horsepower engine, a cutting height range of 2-15cm, and a 90cm cutting width. On the outer slope of Hongze Station, it demonstrated amazing capabilities:
- Strong Power: Maximum climbing angle reaches 40 degrees, handling the 23-degree slope without pressure.
- Fully Unmanned: Supported by the high-precision navigation controller, the machine automatically plans paths (such as bow-shaped or arc patterns), requiring no manual operation throughout the process.
Watching it move steadily forward on the steep dam, harvesting grass neatly, we knew this test was a resounding success!

A New Answer for Smart O&M
This field test at the South-to-North Water Diversion dam proves that the Xuaniao T1-900A is fully capable of handling high-difficulty hydraulic maintenance scenarios.
Beyond mowing, this machine can be equipped with snow plows, transport racks, and even LiDAR to achieve remote monitoring and obstacle avoidance. Whether for dams, photovoltaic power stations, or orchards, it provides an all-weather efficient solution.
